Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 9, 2026

Leave SEA is a free departure-time calculator for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). This page explains what happens to your information when you use it.

What we don't do

What happens to your trip details

Some fields you enter are used only in your browser and never leave your device: departure/landing times entered manually, transport choice, bag and traveler preferences. Others have to be sent elsewhere to produce a result, as described below. Nothing you enter is tied to your name, an account, or any other identifier — each request is just a one-off lookup.

Address autocomplete (Google Places)

As you type into the "Starting Address" field, your browser sends what you've typed so far directly to Google's Places Autocomplete API to fetch suggestions. This request goes straight from your browser to Google — it does not pass through our servers — and is subject to Google's privacy policy.

Travel-time and route calculations

Once you calculate a departure time, your starting address is sent to our server, which looks up its coordinates and calculates travel time to SEA. For driving, rideshare, and drop-off, this uses TomTom's routing and geocoding APIs. For transit directions, this uses Google's Routes API. In both cases, your address (or its resolved coordinates) is passed to that provider for the sole purpose of computing a travel time — it is not stored by us afterward.

Flight number lookups

When you enter a flight number and date, our server looks up the scheduled departure time and gate from the Port of Seattle's public flight-status page, and separately queries AeroDataBox (a third-party flight-data API) to determine the aircraft type, which is used to estimate boarding time. These lookups are keyed only by flight number and date — never by anything that identifies you. Aircraft-type results are cached in our database by flight number so repeat lookups for the same flight don't require a new API call; this cache contains no information about who looked up the flight.

Live checkpoint wait times, weather, and risk events

The "live checkpoint recommendation" feature makes a request to our own server for current SEA security checkpoint wait times (originally sourced from the Port of Seattle's public website). Forecast conditions come from Open-Meteo, a free weather API. Risk-factor information (event traffic, school closures, holidays, road work) is drawn from public sources including Ticketmaster, regional school district calendars, the Seattle Convention Center, and other public event listings. None of these requests include your address, flight details, or any other personal information — they're generic requests for current, public, airport-area conditions.

Contact / feedback form

If you use the Contact / Feedback page, whatever you enter (your message, and optionally your name and email address if you provide them) is sent to our server and forwarded directly to the site operator as a one-off notification. It is not stored in a database, added to any mailing list, or used for anything besides reading and, if you left an email address, replying to you.

Technical data inherent to any web request

Like any website, loading this page requires your browser to connect to our hosting infrastructure (Amazon CloudFront and API Gateway), which necessarily processes your IP address to deliver the response — this is unavoidable for any site on the internet. We do not enable access logging on this infrastructure, so we do not retain or review this information.

Third-party services

This page loads typefaces from Google Fonts. Doing so causes your browser to request font files from Google's servers, which may process your IP address according to Google's privacy policy. Beyond fonts, the services listed above (Google Places, Google Routes, TomTom, AeroDataBox, Open-Meteo, Ticketmaster, and public school-district and venue calendars) each receive only the specific request described in that section — we don't control their own data practices and receive no data back from them beyond the requested result.

No guarantee of accuracy

Every wait time, travel-time estimate, risk factor, and recommended departure time on this site is a prediction, generated from general heuristics and/or periodically sampled third-party data. None of it is guaranteed to be accurate, complete, or current at the moment you view it. Conditions at the airport, on the road, and with your flight can change at any time without notice. This tool is provided for general planning purposes only and must not be relied on as your sole source of information when timing your trip to the airport — always confirm with your airline and allow extra buffer time. We are not responsible for missed flights or other consequences of relying on these predictions.

Not an official Port of Seattle, SEA Airport, or TSA service

Leave SEA is an independent, unofficial tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Port of Seattle, SEA Airport, or the Transportation Security Administration. Estimated times, wait times, and risk factors are provided for general planning purposes only and may not reflect real-time conditions — always verify with your airline and allow extra time for your trip.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, regardless of age — because it doesn't collect information at all.

Changes to this policy

If this tool's functionality changes in a way that affects what data is sent or to whom, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly.
